Kenny Mayer

Glasgow Artist

Kenny works from images based in contemporary culture, working from source material, reducing the image down to primary contrasting colours and basic shapes. Once painted, Kenny photographs the work and re-works them digitally; this may result in an image that Kenny would like to re-paint, and then the cycle continues.

"I primarily work on idea's that i would like to see hanging on a wall; with a conscious effort of retaining a mass appeal. I like to think that the work has a Punk style, T-Shirt quality and shares a similar "cut and paste" spirit and graphical ethic applied to the treatment of material".

Kenny takes his influences from the Star Wars and Grand Theft auto type of poster montage, where a lot of the elements depicted in the movie, game, book cover or propaganda poster are representative of the content within. Grind-house and Hammer cinema use this technique to get over multiple ideas on one image; in doing this the material gains an other-wordly life of itself.

Kenny has accepted commissions, dictated by the client, which are primarily pictorial and serve to celebrate the Icon, Comic Hero, Musician or Actor.
