John McGillivray

John is an 84 year old, self taught artist who basically picked up a brush for the first time on the day of his retirement some twenty years ago!
As a schoolboy he dreamt of a career in art but like so many of his generation was forced to leave school at the age of 14. A joiner by trade, John served his apprenticeship and spent much of his working life in the Glasgow shipyards. He has never lost his solid work ethic and this octogenarian still spends an average of 5 hours per day at the easel. John specialises in the sights and scenes in and around Scotland that have made such a vivid impression on him throughout his life.
