Canvases
Q1 Are tension wedges supplied with the stretched canvases?
We have two thicknesses of stretcher bars and both are finished with tension wedges and supplied with a hanging pack (i.e. eyelets, wire and hooks).
Q2 How deep are the stretcher bars?
The standard depth of stretcher bars is 44mm, however if you would like a thinner stretcher bar we can supply a 20mm depth.
Please let our 2canvas team know your preference when you place your order. We may be able to supply different depths of stretcher bar or frames. Please contact us with your requirements.
Q3 How big can the canvases be?
Our maximum standard width for stretched canvases is 38 or 40 inches - depending on the selected frame's depth and length, this can be up to 60" wide by several metres long.
Canvas widths greater than this can be accommodated on request.
Just let us know if you're looking for something bigger and we'll endeavor to meet your requirements.
See our pricing page for our full range of sizes.
Q4 What should I consider when deciding on the size of canvas to go for?
When deciding on the size you want, there are two principal things to take into consideration:
1) the space where you want to hang the canvas, and
2) the shape and proportions of your image.
The shape and proportions (i.e. the 'aspect ratio') of your image will depend on the sort of camera on which the photo was taken (i.e. normal or digital), and whether you want the photo cropped to achieve a better image.
To see some example sizes, check the pricing page.
Q5 How do I hang a canvas?
The canvases are really quite light.
Although we do provide wire, eyelets and hanging hooks, you may find it easier to just hang them straight onto a nail or screw.

Q6 In what format can I send you my photos?
Prints, negatives and slides can be sent in a hard-backed envelope. Digital files can be uploaded to us, sent by e-mail, or shipped to us on CD. If you don't have a broadband connection, sending large files by e-mail can be time consuming and costly, so we would recommend the CD option.
We accept most digital image file formats, although we prefer .jpg and.tif files. They should be high-resolution, preferably of 300 dpi/ppi (dots per inch/pixels per inch) to ensure the image can be printed to your chosen size. Lower resolution files can be accepted but please bear in mind that this may affect the final size of your image.
Please check our website periodically for this and any other new services we make available.
Please be aware that if a digital image has been printed on an inkjet printer, sometimes the quality is not suitable for reprinting onto canvas.
Q7 Do you wrap the image around the sides of the frame?
Our standard practice is to not do this, but to leave blank-canvas on the sides of the frame. We feel that you can lose quite a bit of the image when it's wrapped, which can affect the balance of the image. However, some images do lend themselves to the gallery-wrap process and we will do this at your request.
We use 3 methods for wrapping images:
- Enlarge images to fit right around the frame. This can be unsuitable for some images where too much of the image is lost.
- Duplicate the edges: flip the image to create a mirror effect and use this 'extra' area to wrap around the sides. This helps to preserve the whole image on the front of the canvas.
- Colour the sides to suit the image's or the room's décor.
We can also, if requested, match a colour from the room that the canvas will hang in, and print this on the canvas edge surrounding your image. This will tie-in your image to the decor of your room.
We cannot however, guarantee a perfect match to your décor, but we will make best efforts under your guidance.
Q8 What is your view on cropping images?
Within any photo can lurk a more powerful image and our job is to find it!
We take a look at all photos we receive to see if they could be improved by cropping. If we feel they can, we will e-mail you a proof of our suggested crop for your approval.
If you like it we'll then let you know how this would affect its proportions and therefore its size. Usually the cropped image can be printed at a very similar size to the original size you had in mind.
Q9 Will my photo be of good enough quality to blow-up to the size that I want?
The short answer is that we'd have to see it to give you a definite answer.
If you're supplying the image as a print, then it should be OK, as we will scan it at a resolution appropriate for the size you want it printed. We do have software available which will allow us to increase the printable size of an image to most of the canvas sizes that we have available - without any noticeable deterioration in detail.
If the image is supplied to us as a digital file it's a little more complicated; the easiest thing, for all images, is to send it to us and have us check it.
We will do our utmost to fulfill your requirements. However, where an image is not of sufficient quality, we will advise you and provide you with some alternatives for your image.
Q10 Can you eliminate red eye and re-touch photos?
No problem. All images are carefully inspected for red-eye, scratches and marks, and corrected before printing.
If, for example, you are not happy with part of an image and it requires a re-touch, we can help you fix that too. If models on magazine covers can be re-touched, why can't our customers!
We also review the image contrast and colour balance to make sure that the printed image will be as good as it can be.
This is all done FREE of charge.
Q11 How do you get the colours right?
We pride ourselves on the service that we provide to our customers. We therefore spend a great deal of effort calibrating our printing machinery to ensure we get the truest possible reproduction of your images. This is of particular importance for professional photographers and interior designers who we work with.
For canvas prints, due to the nature of high quality art canvas (which has a high percentage of natural products in it) there may be slight colour differences and small imperfections on the finished canvas.
Q12 Can you change a photo from colour to black and white?
Yes, and again this is done FREE of charge.
If you're interested in seeing your photo in back and white or sepia, just let us know when you place your order.
Q13 I would like to send my prints to a friend or relative. What should I do?
Please inform your 2canvas team member when placing your order. Deliveries can be made overseas but, due to the additional packaging and costs, such delivery requests will be priced on an individual basis.
Orders outside the EU may be subject to local taxes, import duties or customs charges.
We are unable to accept responsibility for charges levied by other countries.
Q14 Do your prices include VAT?
All prices shown on this site are inclusive of VAT.
(VAT registration number 928955371)
Q15 Do you have images available to purchase?
We do maintain a stock of stunning canvas-ready images, which is growing all the time.
Please browse our on-line gallery to view our stock. If there is nothing that suits your requirements, feel free to e-mail us with your requests, or call 0141 552 0005.
Q16 Do you provide gift vouchers?
Yes we do.
Gift vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. Voucher codes must be supplied at time of redemption.
Vouchers may be purchased in £10, £50 and £100 denominations.
Q17 Can you supply to trade?
Q18 Does it matter who owns the copyright for an image?
Before we can print your image, you must either own the copyright, or have written permission from the owner of the copyright to allow reproduction. This is an important condition of our standard terms.
If the image is a photograph or artwork that you have taken and/or produced yourself then you own the copyright.
If, however, you have commissioned the work (i.e. you have asked a professional photographer or an artist to produce a wedding photograph or a painting) then it is highly likely that you will not own the copyright.
Q19 How will you use my personal details?
Your address and e-mail details are saved in our database for order fulfillment purposes and when relevant to inform you of forthcoming 2canvas news, offers, promotions and events.
You can request to have your details removed from our database at any time, simply e-mail us with UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject box and we will remove your details.
Q20 How do you make sure my canvas arrives safely?
All canvases are bubble wrapped then corner protectors are fitted. In addition, a tough cardboard sheet is cut to-size and fixed to the front of the canvas.
Finally, the canvas is packed in a protective corrugated cardboard box and taped securely before our courier delivers it your designated address.
Q21 What if I'm not happy with my canvas artwork?
We are sure you will be delighted with your canvas. However if the canvas is damaged when you receive it, please inform the courier immediately. Ensure that the damage is recorded and you receive a copy of the damage report - this is very important.
Please contact us and let us know the details of the damage and any reference numbers. We will then contact the courier service and take steps to have your canvas replaced. If the canvas is faulty in any other way, please contact us immediately.
Due to the nature of bespoke canvases, which are produced as per clients' instructions, we are unable to offer a refund unless the canvas is damaged or in some way faulty and has been reported at the point of delivery to our courier or to us directly.
Stock items that do not meet your requirements may be returned - only by prior arrangement with 2canvas. An exchange or refund may be made, less the delivery costs. Exchanges will incur a delivery charge and additional payments may be required where the exchange canvas is more expensive.
You must notify us within 7 days of receipt and return the canvas to us, at your own expense, by recorded delivery within 14 days.
We cannot accept items for a refund or exchange if they have been damaged after delivery.
Q22 The canvas was damaged during transport. What should I do?
See "What if I'm not happy with my canvas artwork?".
Q23 I haven't received the canvases I ordered. What should I do?
If your canvases have not arrived after the notified period of time, please call us on 0141 552 0005 or e-mail us with your order number and full delivery address.
